The course has been designed by the very experienced Clinical team at Melbourne Centre for Women's Mental Health including Senior Clinical Psychologists who have decades of experience working in the field of eating disorders across sectors including public hospital and private hospital, schools, and elite athletes. This course empowers coaches to address eating disorders, body image issues, and compulsive exercise in athletes. It covers recognising warning signs, fostering safe communication, understanding age-appropriate conversations, promoting a positive team culture, and providing resources for ongoing education. The goal is to equip coaches to create a supportive environment and prioritise both physical and mental well-being.
The course includes case studies and interactive assessments as well as an abundance of resources and actionable strategies for immediate application.
Non-judgemental, all questions welcome, all levels of coaches welcome ~ we love that you care enough to commit to this course.
The course will be held online via videoconference and offered over two Monday evenings in June. The course will be repeated on Thursday mornings in July.

About the presenter:
Dr Sonja Skocic is a Senior Clinical Psychologist, Founder and Director of Melbourne Centre for Women’s Mental Health. Sonja has worked in the field of Eating Disorders and Body Image for 30 years, held leadership positions across Eating Disorder specialist programs and is involved in clinical support and research. Sonja also works within the Australian Institute of Sports Mental Health Referral Network. Sonja has a keen interest in supporting coaches to better understand the importance and impact of the coach-athlete relationship on athletes mental health and wellbeing.

We will begin by defining eating disorders, body image issues, and compulsive exercise. Highlight the prevalence of these challenges in athletic settings. Emphasise the role coaches play in fostering a positive environment that prioritises both physical and mental well-being and summarize recent research into the Coach-Athlete relationship and its impact on Body Image.
